Giving

It was yet again a happy, relaxed, anxious and busy week that passed by. 2nd week without any calls for job interview, with lots of important things to finally pick up again after the exam.

Morning service was good today, later found out that 2nd service was a different sermon, glad that i didn't miss out on the good food. then some things to do here n there, last night wrote in my phone's memo about little things to do before going for meeting n there's 7.. huh har~...

"When you are prepared, the job will come."

why..why.... when i want a clear answer, then you speak, too clearly..
sometimes i wish you could make life a little easier by giving a more natural/expected outcome, like occasional calls, some hopes, some ups and some turn-downs.

why have to halt everything and just give me a simple sentence??
i guess i can't be picky n want my God to act in a certain predictable way..

You win,
ding ding ding..
guess who's the one to follow. it's nice.. but.. once in a while la, predictable a bit also good..

--------

I have dreams, little hide-behind, once-in-a-while-take-out-and-polished-then-put-back missionary dreams. Mark Geppert's sharing initiates a good clean out and I am challenged to give like i should.

few weeks ago God already told this and I like to hop around thinking i'm doing it before i really do it. heh. so this week has been a fruitful week as I took part & see how God abundantly blessed the people who gave sacrificially, in Salem's life.

And God did a neat little trick in my finances, being able to give excessively and able to pay my bills without asking money from my parents (though the last day of the week became doubtful n borrowed some money but end of the day the money was not necessary).
good to have Him remind that i have to give away the little i have so that in the future if i get rich, i'll learn to give a sacrificial proportion.

just now after dinner with Mark Geppert, after the so-gooood food, encouragement n sharing of evangelism & significant nation-building efforts in cambodia.. walked back to my bike and viewed the beautiful scenery of uniformed lines of waves across the whole surface of the strait, in an unsually cool cold night. dreaming about a career in finance in missions after some years of corporate battering. it really kept me thinking..

i have completed my 1st one-third of my life, and it seems like there is so much more in me to give to God. Maybe a normal working and living life wouldn't amount to much value, unless I do it for something that goes beyond myself, more than earning & experiencing more and turning into a product of selfish ambition, worldly expectations & social pressure; always sweating more in order to afford more sweat-absorbing shirts.

I want to aim for eternity. Keep my head in heaven, feet on earth.

Let's be us

YAY!!
Exam over, for now =)
Haven't had a good rest though, résumé almost done, application forms to fills, dozens of web pages to read, ponder and dream over, some anxiety to sit through, quite a bit of strained neck to suffer through, and blah blaog blaooogg (foam over mouth zombie-ing around the house)...

thank God i saved lots of trouble in the housing department, yay-ness.

I wanna work by 1 July or earlier!!!

anyway, i realised that the way i read long emails or texts is a bit weird, heh heh. if top to bottom is 1 to 100, I read 1-5 first, then 70-80, and then followed by 6-20, 90-100, and finish off the rest.

tnt ppl fwd mail. The way kids talk to God is adorable & original. They talk as if God exists? Yeah, of course He does exist, but i wonder how many parts of my day and in my thinking that i forgot that he does exist....

So, let's be us, truly, and start talking to God..

what if..
yay, take it "all"..
pray until something happens..
if no thunder, likely to be ok..
u're so gonna be her, lol
sorry, i thought u would like an upgrade
it'll be fun bragging about it during the first 80 yrs..
sorry, can't do much about it, how about thanksgiving?
oh, i forgot, thanks..
can i show you my new ringtone?
had fun stapling baby bro's diaper to the floor eh..
amen
so that i can continue receiving questions like these..
oh, that's why he's dead now
yep, funny innit? Sometimes i replay those conversations to have some laughs
aww.. your parents are getting a raise tomorrow..

Just doing a little thinking

and i found some nice pics..
lady in thought..

pics like this used to inspire me in amateur poetry writing, besides paintings

(short preview: Life Is Beautiful)

Life is Beautiful (preview).mp3 - Jason Ma

(Not the full lyrics..)

Life is full of, ups and downs
And life aint always, what it sounds
Just when you think, you got it down
The moment you realize, you’ve just lost ground
Uh, life aint always what it seems
And life aint always, what you hoped and dreamed
And some people you meet, they can kill your dreams
I understand why, they are so mean?
I mean, it’s just the way that people are
That’s why sometimes, I play my guitar
And just sing away, and play away
Until my problems come tumbling down
And life aint perfect, but it is still worth it
Don’t throw your life away, it’ll be a better day
And everyday I pray, and all I got’s to say
That life is just so beautiful today

Chorus:
Today I’m going to follow you
Today I’m going to walk with you
Today I’m going to run to you
Today I’m going to run to you, run to you Jesus (2x)

Night Cafe (painting)

So beautiful.. I love his paintings in the Arles Period, between Feb 1888 - May 1889. During that short period, he drew about 180+ paintings. For someone who is financially dependent on his bro for most of his life, faced depression n mutilated his ear, his works are stunningly remarkable. Only too bad abt the loneliness & suicide..

gtg, 2 days to my final paper..

last post-exam holidays i did a little research on the holocaust, this time it will be on Van Gogh, can't wait.. =)

Vincent's Two Cafes

"I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day." Vincent van Gogh

Van Gogh's two ultra-famous café scenes comprise a study in opposites. Though both paintings employ Vincent's famous bold and furious brushstrokes and striking colors, the two pictures feel entirely different. One, "Café Terrace at Night," is lovely and full of a frothy light, a night scene with stars outside the café on the Place de Forum. The other, "Night Café," is, in the artist's own words, "…one of the ugliest I have ever done," a collection of clashing colors in the dreariest atmosphere.

Both paintings were made in Arles after van Gogh had lived and studied in Paris, and met various French impressionists. His own style became much lighter, less moralistic and more rife with color.

"Night Café" depicts the interior of a pool in Arles' Place Lamartine. A more striking van Gogh canvas would be difficult to find, but no one could call this particular picture beautiful. It was the artist's intention to show the lowest edge of humanity, without adornment, with as much impact and sincerity as possible.

There is no doubt he succeeded. Upon first glance, the viewer almost tends to glance away, as if burned. Fully two-thirds of the painting is the floor of the café, executed in sulphuric yellow with exaggerated lines of perspective that yank the eye into the painting. Next, a green billiard table, outlined in heavy black, stops us cold. Beside the table stands a figure in a light-colored coat, staring out at us without expression.

"I have tried to express the terrible passions of humanity by means of red and green," van Gogh wrote. Yellow walls give on to blood-red walls that lead to an obtrusive green ceiling, and lining the walls are the locals at the bar tables, hunched over in late-night stupor. Lamps hang from the ceiling, surrounded by Vincent's wheels of curving yellow strokes.

A stark black and white clock depends in the background, impossible to miss. It is almost a quarter past midnight in this desolate scene. "Night Café" is one of Vincent's most powerful communications through art of the human condition and human emotions.

The other van Gogh café painting, "Café Terrace at Night," shows the exterior of a café which still stands in Arles, though it was renamed The van Gogh Café and remodeled to closely resemble the painting which immortalized it. He painted this work in a flurry, using many of the same techniques he employed in his drawings. This is one of his most beautiful paintings, full of the light and peace he sought, but never found.

Perspective and warm complementary colors draw the viewer into the painting and beyond. The graphic texture of the street's cobblestones invite the eye toward the little café itself, with its tiny white tables on the street, repeating the spheres of Vincent's stars hung in the Prussian blue sky. The awning and walls of the café, warm yellow, cut into the sky to enhance both colors and form the main composition.

Van Gogh loved the night. He writes, "I have a terrible need of--dare I say--religion…then I go outside at night and paint the stars." He painted this night scene on the spot, at night, using no blacks. His father was a preacher and Vincent went into the ministry for a while. It was later that this artist, now a star himself posthumously, decided his ministry would be to find a way to give hope and consolation to humanity through his art.

subtle leading

mom showed me some verses.. nice.

friend called up last night to offer me an excellent place to stay in s'pore, perfect location with superbly cheap rent. =) I find that God can really steer my plans & future really well, and quite unexpectedly.. i should probably stop asking "when.. when.. when .. when.. when.."

In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps.

(Proverbs 16:9)

Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."

(Acts 5:38-39)
