Dear Bros and Sis in Christ,

I have a very urgent and special prayer request. For nearly 2 months now I have not announced publicly, even to my prayer team to protect the confidentiality of the fragile situation I am about to tell you. In February the Holy Spirit led me supernaturally to a special young man named "Edison Chen." He is a famous pop star in Hong Kong and China who recently this year was involved in a internet sex scandal that received worldwide attention. My heart broke for this young man when I heard the news. I prayed for him to find the love of God and the forgiveness that is offered through Jesus Christ. I also prayed that God would use this situation for greater good, somehow to redeem and bless the youth and families of Asia. Through a series of divine circumstances in February God brought me to Edison, I shared the Gospel and God's personal prophetic word to him and Edison gave his life to Christ. His heart was genuine, his repentance was true, and I was so happy to see a new brother find God's forgiveness, mercy and grace. God truly loves Edison. The days after, many others in his family and circle of friends came to know Christ. It was a supernatural experience, that only God could orchestrate.

Yesterday night, I found out that one of the largest secular magazines in Hong Kong/Asia had caught wind of Edison's conversion and wrote a front page story on our friendship. I was very much in shock to hear about this because I had not spoken about this publicly for nearly 2 months. I was more surprised when my contact in Hong Kong told me the article was 100% positive, shared about my own conversion experience, my personal ministry and how Edison is starting a new life and new path in Christ. Honestly, when I heard this news knowing that millions all over Asia would read this uplifting article and possibly find Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, I wept.

I wept with joy for Edison and all the millions in Asia who have been negatively effected by the sin & immorality that was spread. I knew God was restoring Edison, a prodigal son who had returned to his heavenly Father. I wept, because God spoke to me when I met Edison that He would bring greater good from this scandal than evil. That what Satan meant for evil, God would turn for good. I am thankful to God because I know millions who read this magazine will see that God has forgiven Edison Chen and all the victims, showing them His love and mercy. Therefore, those who read this article after realizing that God has forgiven Edison, will also realize that Jesus can forgive their sins and give them hope for a new life in Christ. Please pray that God uses this testimony to bless the masses with the power of the Gospel. Good News is spreading in Asia, Jesus died on the cross and resurrected on the third day so our sins could be forgiven and anyone who believes in Him will not die, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

Now I ask you for prayer. Edison Chen, the Victims and myself need your prayers more than ever before.

Please pray for Edison Chen and others...

1. Pray for protection from media pressure: There is a lot of pressure with an public article like this to perform as a Christian. Please pray that people realize Edison and others who have become Christian are still a work in progress. As I am a work in progress myself. No one is perfect, we are all human and we all need love and forgiveness. God doesn't expect us to be perfect, but to trust in His mercy and grace. Pray that God would protect this story and situation against gossip, accusation or deception, but only the truth of Jesus Christ would continually be uplifted in the media.

2. Please pray millions of Christians around the world would pray for Edison, his family, the victims to be strengthened in faith, comforted and restored to be a testimony to society in a positive way. Pray that the many victims of this situation would also find faith and forgiveness in Christ.

3. Pray that many who read this article and story would be saved. Pray that those who read this testimony of Edison's repentance and faith in Christ, my own personal testimony will realize that God loves them also, that they can be forgiven of their sins and have a new life in Jesus Christ. Pray as they realize God has forgiven Edison, He will also forgive them.

4. Pray that my family and I would be a great testimony for Christ. Please pray that God would protect and help me and my family in America and Hong Kong to be good witnesses for Christ. I am returning to Hong Kong in May for ministry and I need God's wisdom in how to talk about this story to others so that they see Christ and not me or anyone else. May He keep me, Edison and all others humble, so that we decrease but Christ would increase.

5. Ask God to turn what was meant for evil into good. Pray that through this scandal, that greater good would come out of this than evil. Pray that millions will be inspired, touched and put their faith in Jesus Christ across the world. This scandal was probably one of the biggest news stories in Asia in the last decade, many were adversely affected, but God now can turn the tide and bring hope and healing to all the world and turn tragedy into triumph!

Lastly, I just really want you all to keep this low key and simply "pray" if you read this. Pray for Edison, he is like a brother to me. I love him and he has a good heart. Many people will try to ridicule or doubt what has happened, but it doesn't matter because I know him and he is not only truly repentant, but he is doing his best to become a better man, change his ways, and live for God. He is a good person. We all make mistakes. I urge the public who reads this, judge not or you will be judged as the Bible says. Forgive Edison, the victims and ask God to forgive your own sins, because none of us are perfect and we all need Jesus forgiveness. Edison is a good man, God loves him, knows his heart is truly sorry and will restore him to be a great role model in society. I know it, I have faith not only for him but for all who are affected by this. Pray for Edison's spiritual restoration. Because t's not easy, Edison, his family, his friends and myself are all God's work in progress and we need prayers, patience, mercy and grace from everyone to not point the finger, gossip or anything else, but to simply pray asking God to make us more like Christ each day and to be a testimony for Him in this generation. May God receive all the glory in this.

42 days left only.

So, things passed by this weekend, yesterday had this urge to write but now it's all a big blank. Thoughts and events flew passed and i felt like i'm in a speeding car, every moment recalled is like a fly that suddenly was swat flat by my windscreen - distinct, but tasteless.. except for a few =) will put in everything that comes to mind.

- the short interview with koon, though time says it's long.
- the enjoyable drum-playing at night service on sat.
- the sermon, which is not super duper whooper fantastic but dunno why i remember it well
- the group drum class today, the newspaper game to test their finger strength :)
- the very heavy rain on route to COP, but it's totally dry there
- when i had conversation with this girl while fetching her home, talked about her love interest & my lack of it, sheltered her from the crazy rain to her door, got myself all wet, went back to the car and drive to teach drums; and along the way, wondering about my most unanswered question of all....

Felt the chill of air-conditioning, wiping my hands dry while hearing my cold breath against the steering wheel, and the rain colliding with my windscreen, dissolving my present to past.
I could almost hear memories replaying..

Rain.. I think when you look into it, it is actually colours... loads of colours... just that when it has too much n we don't see it through the light, it looks greyish.

One of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen happened while standing under the lamp post, under light rain, at night.
Put aside your umbrella and look up, force your eyes to see, and there is this amazing unending spray of orange drops falling all around you.

He teach half-way, while my mind is thinking about advance auditing n performance management.... suddenly said it's advertising time, announces to the class that his friend in (high corporate place) has 6 vacancies, looking for qualified accountants to manage company funds in Dubai, annual salary is US$500,000.

how to concentrate in his lecture for the next 20 mins ?!!


lately saw this article.. the easiest n most impossible way to be rich when u retire, it's true..
Just save up about $20,300 by 26 yrs old, put it in an investment fund, let it earn compound interest. By the time you are 55 yrs old, it will amount to about $1 million. (but amount subject to inflation, interest rate.. blah blah all the PE.S.T.E.L factors)

Although by then $1 million is worth much lesser.. goes the stupid argument of future present value, so save now or spend now.. but..
nice try eh?
ya, i think most adults know about the miracle of compound interest. Save when you're young, earn by time advantage.


Problem? Only two, people at that age group:
1) don't save money.
2) worse, already went into debt.

boohoo.. besides santa claus doesn't exist, bank or any companies (that sell furnitures especially) never offer interest free loans even when it say so, they already included it in the principle amount.

That's why when money becomes more digitalised, maybe what's left in the vault are bankers hiding inside, dancing in evil delight. heh heh.

"What childishness if we live without pain!" This guy head not very correct la, haha, but he has a point there. God says his mercies are NEW every morning, so, you definitely have hope :)

- You have many secrets & hurts inside you, it's ok, just talk to someone you can trust (eg. God), and if nobody is listening, I'm nearby la =)

- When nobody loves you, it's good to know that at least God & your parents do. Sometimes they piss us off, but they are the ONLY ones who will die for us.

unmanageable journey?

It is a saturday, came to church in the morning to be relief teacher for Form 2 science, a lil sore throat after that, had lunch, prac for teenz P&W - guided Xi Zhe, helped lead pre-service prayer, guide Xi Zhe during PnW, sat behind with CG for sermon, lead CG, talked a while, encouraged n challenged Xi Zhe, talk to potential drummers, enthusiastic to learn & serve in church, tell them what to practice... accompany sis prac driving ard church, go buy dinner, come back quickly prac for night service, eat, play for night service, sermon, talk, go home...

swiftly like a dream, sometimes can't recall what went by.

but the pre-service is great, for me la, cos really experienced God, for someone like me who doesn't go for camp or mission trip cos of exam, i normally try to squeeze as much as possible from normal services.


richard called during prac (bad timing), said he's looking for drum teacher for his music school... .. sigh. go schumann then mr. zheng will ask the same thing too, well, at least he gave discount for the things i bought from him :P


Thinking of exposure in work & drums in sydney, or at least melbourne. Serve in hillsong church.. hmm... But also thought of studying part-time drum course in London or L.A. while working as an accountant or finance professional, study from the legendary Joe Porcaro @ LA Music Academy. would be nice...
Or work in london first then request for a transfer to LA or Boston?

Asked parents whether can backpack alone after this june exam, take train to Thailand, sightsee and travel my way into Myanmar, then take plane home. Plan kena rejected immediately, they scared i kena rob or gone missing/dead, lol. They suggested whether want to go goldcoast or melbourne instead, nah, if wanna go there then i rather wait until i get my degree and ACCA at the end of the year.

talked to some blogging dudes at elim b4 start of nite service, surprised that ah-leb reads the poetry blog.. let's see, woah, i've been blogging for more than 5 years.. Lao liao.

reminds me of romance in joshua camp, my camp mates are getting married this july, they met each other during joshua camp, not bad eh.. but they're the only ones i know of that end reasonably well together. Too many buried stories of those that got together during the 5-week camp, stayed together thereafter, traveling here n there, moved from one state to another just to be together, or travel 3-4 hours just to meet the girl or guy, and one couple even become full-time church staff together, but all ended terribly and are really hurt. saw some of them taking many months to recover, or left church..

that's why gets me all jittery when i heard another camper romance story..

haiz.. there's me again, sounded like some kill-joy sad bloke. wish that history wouldn't repeat itself.

Professional accounting qualifications have long been regarded as a passport to a world of career opportunities – and never more so than today. Globalisation has seen a massive increase in the mobile workforce, with accountants plying their trade in emerging and established markets around the world. Many employers experiencing difficulty attracting home-grown finance talent are undertaking proactive campaigns abroad – and ACCA students are in particular demand.

Business as usual
While uncertainty hangs over the global economy, employers have hardly cut back on hiring activity, according to Angus Braham, a director of search and selection firm, McCann & Braham: ‘So far, the ‘credit crunch’ doesn’t appear to have adversely affected opportunities, although some employers are naturally focusing more on business-critical vacancies, and may be more likely to look internally first for other roles.’

But there are still plenty of vacancies available, says Abigail Stevens, managing director of Think Global Recruitment: ‘2008 has started well for job-hunters, with lots of opportunities available. We’re still getting extensive requests to fill vacancies throughout the world. It seems at the moment that companies are continuing to recruit finance professionals, despite the US and other economies going through a squeeze.

‘If that squeeze continues, we may see some financial services companies reduce their recruitment activity, and practice firms will start to look at growing their corporate recovery divisions. However, in previous downturns, firms also reduced the number of trainees they admitted, which caused huge shortages of experienced auditors for many years after. It’s hoped that they’ll have learned from this and not do the same again.’

Audit, audit, audit
With a heightened focus on risk and control, there’s one group of people for whom an economic downturn need pose no real fear.

‘It’s interesting to see how the emphasis on internal auditors has changed,’ says Braham. ‘When the last slowdown occurred in 2001, internal audit was one of the first areas where employers would start to pull staff to cover other positions. These days, the reverse is true – internal audit needs are massive, even where other functions are contracting.’

Max Williamson, chief executive of Careersinaudit.com, says: ‘Even if recruitment slows down, it’s unlikely that audit teams will shrink; auditors are likely to find that the focus of their work shifts slightly, moving towards safeguarding of assets, for example.

‘But notwithstanding recent uncertainty, demand for auditors remains high. In Europe, a shortage prevails in traditional markets such as the UK, France, and Germany. Switzerland and Belgium are also recruiting heavily, due to the large number of US multinationals that use these countries as the base for their regional headquarters. Russia continues to recruit auditors from across the globe to staff and manage its oil and gas organisations. We’re also seeing a good appetite for recruiting in offshore markets such as the Cayman Islands and the United Arab Emirates.’

But don’t imagine an audit vacancy free-for-all, warns Braham: ‘Because other areas of finance are less active, candidates need to be aware that there’s more competition for internal audit roles. If you’re an auditor in practice and want to switch to industry to be on track for a financial controller role, or work in banking, those positions aren’t there in the same volumes. Some ACCA students and members looking to leave practice are now considering internal audit as a stepping stone to senior management. So candidates might have to work a little bit more on preparation and interview technique, as employers won’t just take on anyone who comes along.’

Beyond audit
But don’t despair – if audit isn’t your bag, there are plenty of other options. ‘Transactions services teams are still looking, although perhaps not for the same volume,’ says Braham. ‘However, practice firms are still visibly hiring, and even making high-profile presentations on their recruiting plans for the coming year.’

Technical financial specialists are also in demand, particularly in world financial centres: ‘Fund accountants and investment accountants are always sought after,’ says Stevens. ‘Those with experience of product control, tax, and financial accounting will find opportunities.’ And demand for the full range of soft skills knows no borders: ‘People management, commercial awareness, and leadership ability are all qualities employers desire in their accountants,’ she adds.

The ever-expanding role of finance professionals means that accountants who can identify with the bigger commercial picture are top of the wish list for employers importing skills. This is especially true in territories where foreign organisations are setting up camp in order to capitalise on emerging markets, such as India or China. ‘We’re seeing greater demand for people with financial planning and sales analysis ability for business-facing roles in industry,’ says Braham. ‘They’ll often work alongside senior management and sales teams, where they can make a real impact on the bottom line.’

And, he continues, accountants are increasingly being pulled into non-finance roles for which logical and systematic mindsets are required: ‘They’re now being hired for operational audit; for instance, they work for international organisations that have been buying companies in different countries and want them all to have uniform systems, applications, and internal processes. Accountants are often the ideal people to make that kind of harmonisation happen.’ Operational audit roles would typically involve identifying shortcomings in existing systems and defining remedial actions to bring them into line with global requirements, usually requiring strong relationships to be built with key ‘country managers’.

Calling ACCA students
As the global body for professional accountants, ACCA’s globetrotting students and members are welcome in every corner of the world.

‘Ireland is extremely receptive to ACCA students and members from abroad – especially as it exports so many of its own accountants,’ says Braham. ‘And Scandinavia is also recruiting – although, while English is mostly used for business by international employers there, you might find it trickier outside the office if you don’t speak the local language.’

Last year, scores of employers actively focused their international recruitment efforts on India, but are now casting their nets wider to include the many countries where ACCA student numbers are growing apace. ‘Several companies are looking to hire from locations other than India to redress the balance, although New Zealand and smaller cities in Australia still seek Indian-trained accountants,’ observes Stevens. ‘Chinese-trained accountants are, of course, in demand throughout the world.’

The fact that Eastern European business has enthusiastically embraced ACCA has opened up cross-border opportunities for new members there, says Braham: ‘The entire region is busy – and of course, ACCA is highly popular everywhere. We’ve helped a number of people move from Poland and the Czech Republic into Russia and other former Soviet republics to gain valuable international exposure.’

As Williamson concludes: ‘ACCA is an extremely well-respected qualification. In fact, in many central and eastern European countries and in Asia Pacific, it’s the preferred qualification and has even superseded national exams.’

GLOBETROTTING HOTSPOTS
Which destinations might surprise as the busiest recruiters of accountants from abroad?

Abigail Stevens, Think Global Recruitment:
‘Top of my list are Moscow, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan, which all appear to be booming and require large numbers of accountants, due to business expansion. Expatriates are offered extremely rapid career progression and early responsibility, as well as more interesting and complex work than in many other locations – and great salaries. Culturally, they’re also fascinating countries, and offer much more than people imagine.’

‘Locations such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman are also places where we’re receiving great feedback from accountants who have relocated there. The packages afford superb lifestyles while you gain excellent work experience and career progression.’

Angus Braham, McCann & Braham:
‘The Caribbean as a whole doesn’t always spring to mind with candidates, as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands tend to dominate – but in places such as Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, ACCA students are in big demand. And in the Big Four offices on those islands, you’ll enjoy more diverse and interesting client portfolios, instead of focusing purely on one industry.’

Max Williamson, Careersinaudit.com:
‘My hot tip for 2008 is Greece. The market for auditors there is becoming candidate-led for the first time. Professional services firms want to position Athens as the gateway to south-eastern Europe, and there’s fierce competition among the Big Four. The shipping industry’s growth is helping to raise salaries, while the two main banks are both keen to recruit auditors for growing teams.’

gonna give up on poetry temporarily until the end of my june exam..
say some things to encourage myself to study more, lol..

badminton & supper with TnT

went for badminton session with the fun bunch of TnT people at the badminton court @ larkin, only 1 min drive from my house, heh heh.
then went for supper together, at the foodcourt behind omega tuition centre.

my my.. 4,5 plates of ikan bakar, with the fish so fresh n nice samba (man, i forgot how to spell "samba"), oyster with eggs, vegs with samba, eat with rice.. fruit rojak, tau pok & yew chak kuih rojak, big glasses of mixed fruit juice..

so delicious..

being the quieter one but still enjoying the fellowship, some parts of me still felt like a young boy from TEENz. lotsa room to grow up, i guess.

nice to be with them, living the "good ol' days". =)

phone filter

lately phone contacts overloaded, so i decided to delete some of my old contacts, spent about 10 mins deleting about a hundred contacts, and found some interesting contacts that reminds me of my past.. KL pastors' numbers, limousine/budget taxi, ACTs church numbers, subang jaya church, shah alam cell group leader, CG leader's driver's number, lol. security, maid's number, air asia, n some old acquaintances that i can't remember.
time really passed by during those times in KL..

great to see alan in church last weekend, seeing him there n playing the guitar after service brings me back to the days when all i wanted is to whack some drums wif the bunch of music-lovers n mamak wif crappy n funny jokes.

a day as usual again, sunday service n all, canaan hall is undergoing a one-month reno, and the stage that i saw since yesterday is solid cement, not done yet, but we have to move all the musical instruments up temporarily..

i quite like the edgy feel the cement floor gives, very raw, no-facade feel, real.
well, enjoy it before it'll be covered up.

last night at sat night service i think i played the best drums in my life, skill-wise n etc, auntie Lynn's worship leading encourages me to do so, to play expressively, and I played something that i didn't know can be played by myself. Not sure about congregation as a whole, but i'm surprised, pleasantly surprised. A complicated groove that i can't replicate. felt that it was some kind of anointing that night. nice.. always nice to play in a setting where the only person u wish to impress is God.

speaking of best drums, two weeks from now i'm gonna play the best quality drum sets in my life. yamaha recording custom with posh cymbals, re-recording with one of the best drumsets in JB. stress-level is very high though, hope that 14 songs can be done in two whole days, soundcheck will take less than 3 hours, the play & feel will be great, n sound engineer & drum tech will have a field day =)
A thought kept coming back abt a lucky dude who gets to do these things, really hoped i'll reach those self-implied standards.

drum workshop delayed from last week to coming thurs, go kluang, excited. still keeping those weird notes i once wrote about abstract drum concepts that formed the basis of my groove, not using it though, maybe will share it before i leave? ya, probably.

just got those 2-inch thick notes from en hui, basic audit lecture notes n textbook to lay the foundation for my exam revision. how i wish i can finish it off in a day.

hampir dilanggar,...lagi

this late morning while on my way to downtown to park my bike so that i can walk then take bus then take mrt to college..

riding the bike as usual..
somewhere at a junction the big 4WD gave signal, kept driving at the left lane and seemed to be turning in, it drove straight ahead instead, not slowly.

i braked. and the big car swoop passed me, less than one feet from my front tyre.
heart pounded for a sec, ride on, counting the times i should have broken my bones if not for God's protection.


Nice to feel the new lease of life again =)

Reform : Re-formed

Re-organise my things again, my life, my schedule, my habits, my desk, bedroom..

Dust the files and books, re-arrange the clothes, start noticing the Van Gogh pictures again pasted above the study desk.



Gotha have some new things-to-do everyday..

Daily
- more organised daily devotion
- Jog for 2 laps around Larkin stadium
- do at least 2 household chores
- practice drums systematically
- study at least 8 hours a day
- analyse 1 song
- sleep before 1am

Weekly
- re-read the modern poetry book
- write at least a poem every week
- visit the sunset beach / riverside at night for inspiration
- listen to at least two instrumental soundtrack albums


Yay!... ok, 60 days to my final exam.. Wish me luck =)
